Originally learning his craft as engineer for Steve Lillywhite (with Simple Minds, Pretenders etc), and as Virgin's House Engineer on albums such as OMD's Architecture and Morality (which included Joan Of Arc), Howard emerged as a Producer in his own right in the early 80s. Throughout the decade he produced memorable hits including If You Let Me Stay by Terence Trent Arby, Red Red Wine by UB40, and also worked on The Cure's seminal Head On The Door LP.
In 1990 he would successfully combine his Producer role with that of recording artiste as a member of Apollo 440.

Howard's productions include UB40, Terence Trent D'Arby, Danny Wilson, The Cure, Tom Jones, Manic Street Preachers, Screaming Blue Messiahs, Head, Age Of Chance, The Pale Fountains and OMD.

In recent years Howard has worked with many up and coming bands on the UK rock scene such as Eskimo Disco, Drive By Argument (for Martin Heath's Lizard King), Cherubs (Cargo) and tracks with The Cazals (1,2,3 Records), Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster (Universal), Eight Legs (Island), Circlesound, Assembly Now and Art Brut (with John Fortis).
